People often call earthquakes ‘acts of God’; and it is not hard to see why. Major earthquakes are some of the most powerful natural events that happen in our world. The ground across whole countries may shake so severely that buildings fall down. Earthquakes happen suddenly. Although they may only last a few seconds, the results can be terrible.
This passage is describing a future event that will happen in the last years before Christ’s return. At that time, people will become very evil. They will carry out some of the worst acts that will ever happen in our world (Revelation 11:13).
And at that hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.

Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.”

Despite its many political and cultural divisions, the Bible views the world spiritually as one kingdom, with one ruler—Satan (Joh_12:31; Joh_14:30; Joh_16:11; 2Co_4:4). Following Satan’s lead, the human rulers of this world are generally hostile to Christ (Psa_2:2; Act_4:26). The long rebellion of the world kingdom will end with the victorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ to defeat His enemies and establish His messianic kingdom (Isa_2:2-3; Dan_2:44; Dan_7:13-14, Dan_7:18, Dan_7:22, Dan_7:27; Luk_1:31-33).
